Is it possible to be a natural bodybuilder and have a great body?

Everybody wonders: is it possible to achieve a great body without steroids? I hear this over and over, people keep asking me weather I am natural or not. The answer is yes, I am 100% natural. Although I don't believe in steroids, I am not completely against them.

I understand that steroids are a part of bodybuilding, and that they play a big role in the competitive sport and for those who want to take their physiques to the max. Even people that are taking steroids need to put in a lot of hard work in order to achieve the desired results. It is not an easy game and involves sacrifice.

People who say it cannot be done should not
interrupt those who are doing it.

Yes, even I considered, thought about, and wondered if I should try a cycle of steroids to maximize my results. But I always came to the conclusion not to do so. My main reasons were side effects (like gynecomastia and acne), general fear of messing with my body's hormones and how this might effect my total health as I get older. The fact that I could never claim that I was 100% natural again (like I do now) also played on my sense of personal satisfaction and goal setting. Actually, many people do not believe that I am 100% natural, but I take it as a compliment. I have had to work harder to get where I am and to maintain myself.

I have had to take more care with my nutrition and learn about the safe usage of supplements. It took some experimentation. I found a lot of things that did not work and many things that have helped my process. I had to experiment with my own body chemistry and how it responds to proteins, fats and carbs and to refine my diet to use each according to my goal at the moment, whether it has been a gain period or a lean out period.

Let’s face it - steroids will get you results, more than any other supplement. Would I recommend it? No. You might be able to get away with a few cycles of steroids without messing with your body's health too much, but then again, I do not think it is worth the risk unless you are a professional bodybuilder that is making big money with his overall appearance and form. One must always consider that steroids need to be processed by the liver and that even ones with less impact on liver enzymes still tend to present some risk, some of which are not yet known completely. Also careful monitoring of liver ezymes and kidney function along with the various metabolites of hormones is a lot of management. I simply prefer the natural way that avoids this altogether.

Being natural does not mean that you can't get your body to the next level. I have been a natural bodybuilder for years and my results are so good that people constantly think that I am on steroids. It's all about hard work and dedication, plus having good genetics to some degree. But using one's brain muscle is equally important. There is no by-passing sound nutrition as well as the smart and safe usage of supplements.

Anyone considering taking anabolic steroids should be at least 21 years old, and have trained for at least 4-5 years seriously in the GYM. This is just my advice, as I see people starting a steroid cycle at a very young age or people that have not yet maximized their natural potential before starting with anabolics. Also you need a PCT (Post Cycle Therapy) to minimize side effects and avoid a shut down of your own endogenous hormone production. Regardless, you still might feel bad and weak after a steroid cycle for a short period of time.

All of this was just too much for me to risk, and I decided to stay natural as it is simply the clear and "easy way" in the bigger picture, Nothing can go wrong and you still can look great without it. If you want to increase testosterone levels naturally in your body I recommend doing complex exercises like deadlifts and squats, as these target a high amount of muscle groups which will lead to a higher production of testosterone and muscle building hormones naturally.
